Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumor (TURBT)
Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumor (TURBT) is a surgical procedure used to diagnose, stage, and treat bladder cancer. During TURBT, a surgeon inserts a resectoscope through the urethra into the bladder to remove tumors or abnormal tissue. This procedure is often the first step in treating non-muscle invasive bladder cancer. It allows the surgeon to remove the tumor while preserving as much of the bladder as possible. The removed tissue is then sent to a lab for further analysis to determine the type and stage of cancer. Recovery typically involves a short hospital stay and close follow-up to monitor for recurrence.
