Arthroscopy

Arthroscopy

Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical technique used to examine, diagnose, and treat joint problems. It involves the use of an arthroscope, a small, flexible tube equipped with a camera and light source, which is inserted into a joint through small incisions. This technique allows surgeons to view the inside of a joint on a monitor and perform various procedures without the need for large incisions.

Indications for Arthroscopy:

  • Diagnosis: To investigate joint pain, swelling, or dysfunction when other diagnostic methods are inconclusive.
  • Treatment:
    • Meniscal Tears: Repairing or trimming torn meniscus cartilage.
    • Ligament Injuries: Repairing or reconstructing torn ligaments.
    • Cartilage Damage: Debridement or repair of damaged cartilage.
    • Joint Cleaning: Removing loose bodies or debris within the joint.
